Thailand's 2026 Entry Rules: The Complete Guide To The New ETA, TDAC & E-Visa

Thailand's entry procedures have undergone a significant transformation. The traditional paper documentation process has been fully digitised as of 2026.

Current status at a glance (January 2026)

  • TDAC (Digital Arrival Card): Active and mandatory for all travellers.
  • ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization): Cancelled — replaced by TDAC.
  • 300 Baht "Tourist Tax": Delayed; expected in Q3 2026.
  • Visa exemption: 60 days for 93 countries (US, UK, EU, Australia, etc.).

1. The new must-do: Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

The TDAC is the digital replacement for the former blue TM6 paper card. Since May 1, 2025, it has been compulsory. It is required for everyone — including visa holders and children — registration opens up to 72 hours before departure, and it is completely free. Travellers without a QR code at immigration can face 30-60 minute delays at airport kiosks, so complete it beforehand at the official site (tdac.immigration.go.th).

2. The Thailand ETA: scrapped for 2026

The Electronic Travel Authorization faced repeated technical setbacks since its late-2024 launch. As of January 2026 it has been entirely phased out and superseded by the TDAC requirement.

3. TDAC vs. E-Visa: which one do I need?

4. The "Tourist Tax" (300 Baht): is it finally here?

The proposed "Kha Yeap Pan Din" landing fee remains uncollected as a separate charge; implementation has been postponed to mid-2026. Note that from February 1, 2026, the Passenger Service Charge at major hubs (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai) increased from 730 Baht to 1,120 Baht — incorporated into ticket pricing, with no cash payment required on arrival.

5. Summary checklist for 2026 travel

  • Four weeks prior: determine if a long-stay E-Visa applies (stays over 60 days).
  • 72 hours before: complete mandatory TDAC registration.
  • Upon arrival: present your TDAC QR code and passport.
